Reverse or Stop

Since my theme for the analog piece has a theme of time pass, I wanted to take it someway in digital as well. I end up thinking of making it an opposite theme, either time reverse or stop of time. To me, cold colours give a sense of slow moves. In addition, I wanted to give a sense of mystical feel, because reserve time or stop of time is an unnatural thing that would never happen in real life. Overall, the point of making the analog painting into harsh black and white, and inversing matched with the stop of time. However, I didn’t want completely in cold colour. I am not including sadness or any negative feel inside this art. For this reason, there is yellow in the middle of the clock.

Present to Past (in digital)

Another merit of doing things in digital: copy and paste! This cannot be done in analog, or it takes a huge time for me to create a pattern using the same object drawing. This used to be my wallet; however, after repeatedly overlapping them together, it made me feel like as if it is a spiral shell. Also, it made oldness to the artwork because of the yellowish brownish colour that appeared within the overlaps. I believe making patterns and repetitions are something that digital can be good at. For this piece, I tried making them look it to have an old feel and a cycle of life.

Season: Winter-Spring

IMG_0068.JPGSeason Winter-Spring

“Time” and “Lotus flower” was mostly the key item for this image, so I thought of making this someway in digital changing the background. In the analog piece, the theme was the life that grows throughout the pass of time. I have chosen the lotus flower since one meaning of the lotus flower is “life and a new beginning.” Within filters and adjustments of colours, I thought of making the background like this to create a seasonal change from winter to spring.

I wonder how I could make the clock stand out. I just end up having them have a shadow over because I did not want to interrupt any colour between the borderline between winter and spring.

Season: Fall (in Digital)

This was also the analog painting within a theme of the season (For further explanation, see the work before: Spring). Instead of working in the same way as the spring, I wanted to show another merit of creating paintings in digital, that is the use of layers. Since we can divide each artwork to different layers, it becomes easier to overlap and focus on one part of the art. For this art, there were layers such as leaf 1 layer, leaf 2 layer, background blue layer, background yellow layer, tree layer, a shadow layer, light layer, etc. Further on, because there are options of overlay, multiply, screens, and so on, it became cooler than the analog painting.

Season: Spring (in Digital)

This work mostly focused on the geometric shapes and straight lines. I can make straight lines using rulers, but it takes much more time than in digital. Moreover, if I were to create the same length on other places, I would need to measure the length every time in analog whereas in digital, I can just copy and paste and transform them to the place where I want them to. Overall, I painted to have a feel of spring in this artwork since the actual analog painting focused on seasons. I wanted to have a spring atmosphere included in even when digitalized, so I worked on different types of blues, greens, and pinks.

Cyborg Self Portrait 2/2

All the fruits seen in this self-portrait are ones I don’t want to eat. I guess most of the people has something they dislike eating (or they don’t prefer eating.) Since I hate them, I made the fruits to look picture-like, or in other words, in perfect shape. Usually, real fruits  have some unbalance or differences in colours, but I had made them idealised to show that “I have not look at them for long.”

Since it is a cyborg self-portrait, I thought I can take off the head showing that fruits will not go through my throat. In addition, I showed the “hate” by not looking at it, not touching in real hands, and covering mouth with a knife and a fork.

Cyborg Self Portrait 1/2

To create a cyborg self-portrait, I first thought of myself. What do I like? What are my characteristics? After some brainstorming, I organized the ideas into three. I will be creating one of them with Illustrator. (Not decided yet.)

For the left sketch, I drew them with an idea of hate. Since I don’t like fruits, I thought of having a closed mouth with fruits around. I had substituted my hand into mechanical parts, attaching knife and forks on each. The reason I covered the eyes is to show that “I don’t want to see fruits,” and also separated the head and the body to show that “I am not going to have fruits go through my throat.”

Natures and flowers were the themes for the middle sketch. I liked looking and planting flowers, and my very first time of sketching was also a flower. I mixed the human body with plants and trees. I took a model of a shower for the left arm to give an idea plating natures.

Since I am from Japan, and I love Japan, I wanted to draw one with it. It took a long time for me to think of combining Japan with the cyborg, and had ended up changing the theme to travel. However, to me, Japan is the best of all the countries I traveled. The mechanical heart includes the two countries I traveled that I had stayed long, and the place I am living now: Japan, China, and Canada. The world map is drawn on both parts to clarify the idea of travel, and a fan to show which country I like the best.

Industrials and Environments

What connections could I make within “Architecture” “Natural” “Technological” “Digital”??

painting-and-digital-imaging-1

What first came to my mind was the global warming. Using too much electricities and machinery gives a bad effect to natures, such as its beautifulness. Using a contrast colour to green, I have used red to show the bad effects. Furthermore, digits are seen as well to show the difference between the nature seen through our own eyes or digitals.

After creating this work, I thought I may have been too serious…

So, I decided not to be too serious. Instead of focusing on the issues, I simply showed that we should take more care to environments. The window shows the importance and that we need to save natures. The solar panel attached to rocks tells what we are doing now to prevent from giving influences to environments. What could we do next?

Aren’t there any way to have mechanics and natures live together without giving any influences to each other? So, what about this…well I am joking a bit since there are no electricities on natures, but think about it. The computer cares about the tree, and the tree gives something that makes the computer move. Aren’t there a way to make that possible? If we were able to have both technologies and natures together, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Starting a Blog for Artwork Ideas

A note for writing my artwork ideas and thoughts.

Theme: Time

Materials: Scanner and metallic objects

photography-project-1-1

This contains the idea of how time goes. The way of looking at this artwork changes,  whether you think it is showing the time as slow or fast going, depending on what each of us thinks about time. The small smudges show the unstableness of time since time flows differently based on what we do.

photography-project-1-2

With the artwork before, I thought time is something important that needs to be on track, as well as the thing that ties us, which is shown by the black sharps around. Showing a difference in lightness and darkness as preciousness and weight. There are more grays and blacks because I used to be trapped in time.

photography-project-1-3

This is what I hope I’d be able to do in the future: To be free from time. The watch band and the hands of the clock show the release from time, and A circular shaped object at the left bottom corner shows the move of time. I used a darker background to clearly show the broken pieces of the watch.
